How to Fish MorePlayers Mod: Install, Configure & Remove
Push past the official lobby limit with the unofficial MorePlayers mod: install, MaxPlayers settings, coexistence with other mods and a clean removal.
Let us be clear first: MorePlayers is an unofficial mod, not something Dazed Games ships.
Version 0.1.0 advertises up to 32 players, defaults to MaxPlayers=32, and depends on BepInExPack 5.4.2305. The base game officially supports 8 players since Patch 1.0.4.
Four things to do before installing
- After every game update, recheck the MorePlayers 0.1.0 page for the version and dependencies.
- Create a dedicated Thunderstore profile, so you can disable the whole mod setup in one action.
- Back up important saves, and test with a new or disposable slot.
- Make sure every host and client runs the exact same game, BepInExPack and MorePlayers versions.
Neither Thunderstore nor Dazed Games guarantees 32-player stability, official support or zero account risk. 32 is the plugin’s configuration ceiling, not a load test this site ran.
Install and configure it
- Create a How to Fish profile in a Thunderstore-compatible mod manager.
- Install MorePlayers 0.1.0 and let the manager add BepInExPack
5.4.2305. - Launch the game once with that profile, then close it.
- Open
BepInEx/config/kalamies.MorePlayers.cfg. - Set
MaxPlayersto the group size you actually need. Do not jump straight to 32 for the first test. - With everyone on matching versions, host a new lobby and add one client at a time.
The release page does not document a manual DLL install, so this site will not invent one.
When a modded lobby fails
Black screen, red Relay text, invisible players, broken inventory — if any of those show up, stop adding clients.
Write down the game and mod versions, disable the entire profile, then repeat the same test in a clean two-player lobby.
- Clean lobby works: the mod profile or version alignment is the leading suspect.
- Clean lobby fails too: go to basic multiplayer troubleshooting.
- Relay stays red: fix the Steam connection first, then worry about player counts.
Patch 1.0.11 only describes the join-time inventory bug as “hopefully fixed”. That is a fix attempt, not a compatibility promise for MorePlayers.
Other mods people use
The Thunderstore How to Fish category is the only public mod index right now. Besides MorePlayers it carries portable chairs, HUD recolours, skin sharing, boss health bars, deployable turrets and more.
Two of them are verified well enough to install on their own:
| Mod | What it does | Dependency and current version | Where this site covers it |
|---|---|---|---|
| BepInExPack | The mod loader everything else needs | BepInEx-BepInExPack 5.4.2305 | Install steps on this page |
| HowToFishXR (by J_axon) | Turns the game into 6DoF PCVR with tracked hands and physical reeling | BepInEx 5; GitHub Releases currently v1.3.0 | VR mod install and setup |
Running several at once
- Add one at a time. Two plugins that both patch cameras, input or UI will fight. If something breaks, disable the whole profile and reproduce in a clean two-player lobby.
- Recheck versions after every update. Mods hook internal game methods. After a patch like 1.0.12 they may need the author to rebuild. Trust each mod’s own release page over any list.
- Host-only is not enough. Host and clients must run the same version set to stay stable.
- The developer has never supported mods. Dazed Games does not guarantee mod compatibility and will not cover save or connection problems caused by them.
This site does not cover trainers, god mode or cheat menus. They ruin multiplayer fairness and fight other plugins over the same game functions, which makes failures almost impossible to attribute.
Removing it
Disable the dedicated profile and launch without mods. If files are still modified, verify the Steam files, then host a fresh clean lobby and go back to the official 8-player limit.
Do not use the broken modded lobby as your control test.
