How to Fish Patch 1.0.12: Steam Cloud Saves & Balance
What Patch 1.0.12 changed: saves moved to Steam Cloud, how to upload an old save, Piranha and Tuna balance, the new item speed cap, plus voice and lobby FPS fixes.
Patch 1.0.12 landed on September 4, 2026. It is the current build, and the developer calls it “probably the last bugfix patch” before content updates.
No new island. No new boss, fish or story chapter. This one is about saves, a few balance tweaks, item physics, voice chat and lobby frame rate.
Saves moved to Steam Cloud
Your save files now live in Steam Cloud.
If you played before this patch, your old save needs a one-time upload: go back to the PC that holds it, launch the game, and quit normally once. Steam uploads it from there, and only then do other devices see it.
Do not flip the order:
- Confirm the right campaign on the original PC first.
- Save, leave through Main Menu or Quit, and close the game.
- Let Steam finish syncing. Do not switch devices yet.
- Once it is done, open the game elsewhere and check your islands and gear.
Steam Cloud is sync, not a time machine. It cannot rescue a save that was already overwritten, so keep a local backup. Full PC-to-Steam-Deck steps are in save, autosave and recovery.
Balance and gameplay changes
- Piranha was rebalanced. The developer published no numbers.
- Tuna was nerfed slightly. No numbers either.
- Items now have a speed cap, so fewer of them fly off the map.
- Explosives now damage the final boss even when it lands on its tail.
Because no numbers were published, this site does not guess a percentage. The fish locations page only records that the change happened.
Voice, frame rate and music
- MetaVoice moved to 4.3. The developer hopes it fixes some voice chat bugs.
- FishNet no longer overrides your max FPS when you join a lobby.
- Music is preloaded now, so buying your first radio no longer stutters.
What you do not need to do
- No new run. Your old progress still works, once that upload is done.
- No reinstall. Restart Steam and the update takes effect.
- Achievements, drops and island unlocks were not touched.
Other versions
The previous one is Patch 1.0.11: Steam Deck Verified, GeForce NOW, and the four control toggles. Older versions are summarised one line each in the patch index.
