How to Fish Giant Piranha Boss: Trigger and Fight
The second boss: hand in three leeches for the leech bait, then fish it up. Dynamite and a pistol solo, boat kiting in co-op.
The Giant Piranha is the second boss you meet, on Island 2.
You cannot just walk up to it. It is locked behind a hand-in chain.
How to summon it
- On Island 2, find and pick up three leeches (they are ground pickups, so look down for
E). - Hand all three to the woman in the forest to receive the leech bait.
- Fish with the leech bait at the island edge and the Giant Piranha comes ashore.
Miss one step and the boss never appears. If you handed items in but it will not spawn, check the leech bait guide: all three handed in, and the bait actually equipped.
How it fights
- Phase one: it arrives alone and moves fast, biting at close range.
- Phase two: after a few hits, it summons a pack of small piranhas that chase you. They hurt, and standing still gets you chewed to death.
- The small piranhas outlive the boss. When the Giant Piranha drops, clean them up separately.
Solo strategy
The core idea is to pre-place your explosive damage:
- Place dynamite before the fight. It costs $25 each, so spread several around the island instead of buying mid-fight.
- Sprint the whole time. Both the boss and the adds do melee damage, so standing still is how you die.
- Pistol on the boss. It fires fast, and magazine upgrades plus head shots stack damage quickly.
- Shotgun on the adds. The small piranhas are fast and tiny, so spread beats precision.
- Kite the boss onto the dynamite, then detonate. Step back first; the blast hurts you too.
- Upgrade ammo as far as you can. Output speed is what makes this fight forgiving.
Co-op strategy
- Boss health scales with player count. More players is not automatically faster, so do not expect an easy ride.
- Kite it with the boat. The Giant Piranha cannot catch the boat: one player drives circles around the island while the others shoot.
- Confirm someone has already bought the leech bait before you set out, or the whole trip is wasted.
- Rotate drivers. The person steering gets tired, and a mistake with the boat costs the fight.
What to check when it goes wrong
| Symptom | Check first |
|---|---|
| Boss never appears | All three leeches handed in, correct bait equipped, casting into water at the island edge |
| Killed by small piranhas | Dynamite placed in advance, and whether you kept moving |
| Damage too low, fight drags | Pistol and shotgun upgrades, and whether ammo is topped up |
| Co-op feels harder | Whether the health scaling outgrew your extra damage |
Version note
Patch 1.0.12 rebalanced Piranha, and the developer published no numbers. So this page records that the change happened instead of quoting a percentage.
