How to Fish Co-op on Day Two: What Launch Week Really Looked Like

A four-player session recorded the day after launch is an accidental snapshot of the release build: black screens, failed joins, refund jokes.

KYRSP33DY published this 102-minute four-player session on August 21, 2026, the day after launch. So its real value is not strategy, it is the timestamp: it captures what the game looked like at the very start.

Start a group now and you get the post-1.0.4 eight-player lobbies, private invites and save fixes. This video shows what the first players actually went through.

What the launch build was like

The four of them spend the opening customising characters, then run straight into launch problems: black screens, a player who cannot join, and half-joking talk about refunds.

Once in game, the first steps match today’s: clams, a hot dog as bait, selling catches for cash, and buying guns (the word “shotgun” appears 30 times) and the radar. Over 102 minutes they take the keys on the starting island, sail to the second island, and run into drowning, item-stealing seagulls, the grill and dynamite. On a good run, one evening gets you a long way.

Why the launch problems are worth remembering

Zero1 Gaming’s August 24 review records the same things: crashes, lost items, connection trouble and strangers joining sessions, and notes that only patches 1.0.4 through 1.0.6 added eight-player lobbies, private invites and save adjustments. GameBrief also lists missing audio and video settings plus early crashes and save bugs as thin polish.

The other half comes from Kotaku: a million copies in two days and a 24-hour peak above 370,000 concurrent players. Both are true. The game blew up, and launch was rough.

Four things to do before your group starts today

  1. Match builds. Make sure everyone is on the current patch so nobody joins with invisible inventory or teammates.
  2. Open a private invite lobby. Skip public lobbies; during launch week strangers really did join and grief sessions.
  3. Split roles before leaving the island. One player handles money and the shop, one reads the radar and route, two fish and subdue.
  4. On a black screen, change host before reinstalling. The official fix is still described cautiously. The full order is on the multiplayer troubleshooting page.
